Unique Learning Trail Faces Last Hurdle Before Approval

The Born Learning Trail could be placed at two different locations.

After design mock-ups and evaluations, the United Way Born Learning Trail that was proposed to the village during is being sent to the Village Board for a final decision tonight.

The discussed the unique trail designed for toddlers and parents during Monday night’s meeting. Members looked over design mock-ups for both  and the newly reconstructed .

Board members agreed that the limited pavement at the Spring Green Park could prove to be a challenge for the implementation of the trail, especially for the painted stencils. While the representative from United Way assured them the trail’s activities could be extended off the pavement, the board still saw Weyer Park as the best option.

Located close to the and , Weyer Park has a long stretch of pavement parallel to the river. It has more parking options than Spring Green Park, more room to accommodate additional activities and less traffic concerns.

However, the board members agreed they would offer both options to Powersports Network, the sponsor footing the bill for the entire project. Because it’s the company’s money, board members said giving Powersports the choice shows appreciation for the generous donation.

In addition, recognizing both parks as viable areas for learning trails means another could be added at the park Powersports decides not to choose if another sponsor presents itself.

The Village Board will make an official decision during today's meeting, which begins at 7 p.m.
