Sussex Residents To Continue Using Lisbon Compost Site If Board Approves Contract

Sussex residents will likely be able to continue to bring their compost to the Town of Lisbon site after the Public Works Committee on Tuesday agreed to renew the three-year contract with the town. 

"It seems to be something a lot of residents use and enjoy," said Village Administrator Jeremy Smith during the committee meeting.  

The Village of Sussex will pay a $1,000 fee each year to Payne & Dolan and labor costs during the time when village residents are allowed to use the site, according to the agreement presented to the committee. The contract still needs to be approved by the Village Board.

The labor costs are paid by the village through the fee collected from residents who purchase a Compost Pass. The current fee is $25. The village's portion of the labor costs, according to staff, will be $3,793 in 2013, increasing 2 percent each of the next two years. 

"Costs are going up slightly for their labor costs but it's already built into our base budget and it's a nominal increase year over year," Smith said.  

The compost site, located at N80W25354 Plainview Road, is open Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and Mondays from 4 to 7:45 p.m. until Nov. 24. 

Residents can drop off yard waste and brush and pick-up free compost and wood chips at the site.
