Sussex residents may have another place to shop as Meijer is working on a plan to put a store in the village, according to village leadership.
The store, which would consist of retail, grocery and pharmacy, is expected to a little less than 200,000 square feet, according Village Administrator Jeremy Smith.
"Any time we have the opportunity to have another business come into the community, certainly one with Meijer's history, is a positive for the community, but there is a lot of things through the planning process that we have to go through," he said on Wednesday.
A conceptual presentation of building and zoning plans will be made at the the upcoming Plan Commission meeting, slated for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 at Village Hall.
The Meijer store would be located at Highways K and 164, according to the Sussex Sun, which noted about 60 percent of the store would be grocery. The company has about 200 stores in the Midwest and plans to open three other stores in the metro area, the paper said.
"At the end of the day, when you can provide more retail opportunities for your community and another business to partner with in the community, that always a positive thing," Smith said.
