Property Coming Into Sussex Won't Have to Hook Up to Village Water

Requiring soon-to-open hockey camp to get village water considered unreasonable at this point.

A new property coming into Sussex will not have to hook up to municipal water for now, the village's Water Commission has decided.

Commission members said the property, which is located at N51W25213 Lisbon Road, Town of Lisbon, will not have to hook up once it enters the village because it wouldn’t be considered a reasonable requirement. However, in the future, the property will be required to hook up to the water system once it’s considered feasible.

Village Administrator Jeremy Smith said the property owner is planning to leave the Town of Lisbon for the village because the owner plans to open up a hockey camp business on the property and needs to be zoned commercial as opposed to its current residential status.

The property has a barn on it where the hockey practice will take place and a small cottage to accommodate youth hockey players who train at the camp who reside in other regions of the country.

Patch was unable to reach the owners of the property and Smith had no further details on the planned camp.

Under normal circumstances, the village would have required a water main located on Highway K to be extended to the property - at the owner's expense - when that parcel becomes part of the village. However, in this case, the commission ruled the property owner can wait until the main water line to the south of the property is built sometime in the future.
