No Contest: Goetz Handily Beats Kolesari in Village President Race

Trustee wins by a 2-to-1 margin over School Board president.

Village Trustee Greg Goetz will be the next president of Sussex.

Goetz was elected Tuesday after he collected 1,899 votes, handily beating Hamilton School Board President Gabe Kolesari. The results are unofficial.

Goetz will serve a two-year term and replace outgoing Village President Tony Lapcinski, who did not seek re-election.

Goetz didn’t return phone calls seeking comment Tuesday evening. Kolesari, 66, said the friendship he and Goetz have will continue forward and that Sussex will be in good hands with Goetz leading it.

“We’re friends and that’s just the way it’s still going to be,” Kolesari said Tuesday night.

Goetz and Kolesari and friendship during the course of the campaign, with the two candidates saying they wanted to make sure the community continues to grow with the challenges it faces.

As village president, Goetz in funding from the state level and play an key role in the design and development of the downtown area, along with deciding the fate of  Village Hall.

Village Clerk Sue Freiheit said 3,083 votes were cast in Sussex Tuesday, which is about a 48 percent turnout. She had planned for a 50 percent turnout.

“It went great,” Freiheit said. “It was a fantastic turnout."
