Who Was Library Benefactor Pauline Haass?

Pauline Haass left her entire estate to the Town Lisbon for the purposes of building a library. Watch the video to learn more about her.

Pauline Haass Library Director Kathy Klager said Pauline Haass was a former school teacher and a farmer along with her husband George in the Town of Lisbon. She also later owned a home in Sussex.

Lisbon did not have a library. Later in her life they had a book mobile service but she felt a library was needed.

When she died she left her entire estate to the Town of Lisbon for the purposes of establishing and maintaining a library.Β

In order to make a bigger library, Lisbon teamed up with the Village of Sussex.

The Town of Lisbon and the Village of Sussex are in a dispute over financing the library and over the Pauline Haass land.
