The Town of Lisbon and the Pauline Haass Library Board are fighting over the 65-acre farm at Lake Five and Hickory roads where Pauline Haass use to live for 34 years, reported the Sussex Sun.
Before her death Pauline Haass wrote in her will that her estate would be left to the Town of Lisbon with the purpose of building a free library. The library board argues that state law gives them control of the land.
There has also been an ongoing controversy over whether the Town of Lisbon would continue to fund the Pauline Haass Library because Sussex and Lisbon can't agree on funding. Lisbon belives that Sussex should pay more because their residents frequent it more.
Lisbon Town Chairman Matt Gehrke said if they reach an agreement, the town will continue to maintain the farm so that it may help the town pay for improvements to the library, reported the Sussex Sun.
