Help Wanted: Volunteers Sought for Parks Projects

Community members needed to help build improvements at Ridgeview and Spring Green for playground installations.

Sussex officials are still looking for community members to help build improvements at village parks.

Amy Jeske, director of recreational services, said she’s reaching out to community groups in order to get volunteers to build the improvements at and . The volunteers need to be put in place by late June in order to perform the community builds by late July or early August.

“We’re not just looking for just Sussex organizations,” she said. “We’ll take school groups, other groups, or anyone who wants to help out. We’re glad to have them help, too.”

Parks officials are searching for volunteers to build improvements to community parks in order to save money on construction costs. The idea was first floated at the April Park and Recreation Board meeting.

By having the community install improvements to the parks, Jeske said $4,800 in savings will come to the Spring Green project and Ridgeview will see $9,000 in savings.

Some groups the department is discussing involvement with include Simply Sussex, the Sussex Lions Club and the Volunteer Organization of Women in Sussex.

Village Trustee Pat Tetzlaff, who heads up Simply Sussex, said she’s still waiting for more details on the build projects, but the organization will be involved somehow.

“I can definitely say we’re going to be part of the Spring Green playground,” she said. “(I) think it’s going to be very interesting to do it all in one day.”
