Do You Want Roundabouts on Main Street? Village Wants to Know

Sussex officials unveiled four concept designs for the reconstruction of Main Street during , and it looks like roundabouts and other features are in the works for construction in 2015.

The designs are based on comments given during , and they include features like three roundabouts down Main Street and brick dividers between lanes. 

Under the plans, the roundabouts would be located at Main and Maple streets; Main Street and Silver Spring Drive; and in front of the Village Hall.

Melissa Weiss, the assistant to the village administrator, said she heard a lot of feedback about the designs and is focused on getting more before presenting anything to the Village Board.

"The feedback was relatively mixed, and we don't have the official results back, but it was about half and half in terms of people liking the roundabouts," Weiss said. "A lot of people expressed interested in solving traffic and turning problems at Silver Spring, and we heard a lot of concerns about pedestrian safety."

Weiss said she's currently concerned with getting as much feedback as possible and wants residents to take the village survey on the construction project. Once she has received enough feedback, Weiss will present the comments to the Village Board. She's hoping to do so in May.

"We're having another public meeting on April 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at  and we're going to take some additional comments from the public at that time," Weiss said. "We'll also be sending invitations to property owners on Main Street so they know to attend."
