Could You Be Sussex's Next Parks Director?

With time winding down to apply to replace Amy Flaherty, who left the position in August for warmer climes, Sussex hopes to soon name a new director of parks and recreation.

It's the final week of acceptance for applicants for Director of Recreational Services in the Sussex Parks and Rec Department, and if you've got the skills, why not apply?

Amy Flaherty was in the position for a little over two years planning and coordinating events and activities in Sussex, and most notably, helping to organize the possible reconstruction of Sussex Village Park. However, last summer  taking an opportunity to move to Key West, FL. The village posted for a new director and in the meantime, Megan Sackett has been serving as the interim director.

Sussex is home to 15 parks, open spaces and nature preserves and also offers recreational programming for all ages. "The Director is a key member of the Village’s management team and is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the department, undertakes long term recreation and park planning and ensures that the community receives quality recreational services in an efficient and cost effective manner," according to the village's website.

The Village Board adopted a Master Plan for Village Park in late 2012, and the person to fill the role will play a critical role in the transition of Village Park.

The salary range is $58,000 to $65,000, and the first review of applications begins Friday, Feb. 1. However, applications are not complete until an employment application, resume and cover letter are received.
