Board Gives Assistant Administrator New Duties

Assistant village Administrator Melissa Weiss will also head up the public works department as officials continue search for new engineer.

The assistant village administrator for Sussex is about to see her job duties expand.

The Village Board voted unanimously Tuesday to make assistant Administrator Melissa Weiss the director of public works for the village. The position is currently vacant and by making the move, leaders said it will allow them to find a candidate to fill the village engineering position without having to worry about finding a candidate to hold both spots.

Village President Greg Goetz said he supported the move because it has been difficult for leaders to find a joint engineer and public works director candidate who had both technical and public relations skills.

He said Weiss has proven herself to be very proficient, organized and meticulous in her current position.

“It’s not something that’s given lightly,” Goetz said. “She’s definitely earned it.”

The engineer will also serve as assistant public works director. The number of positions and budget for the public works department will not change with the shift in responsibilities.
