The new board met for the first time Tuesday in order to decide on filling the vacant trustee position and go through the orientation process.

Batzko, along with trustees Tim Dietrich and Jason Wegner were elected to three open seats on the board during the April election, beating out Michael Knapp, who previously served as a trustee and village president.

While the board could have opted to simply appoint Knapp to the vacant position, members said it’s important to allow all residents to have an opportunity to apply and allow newer members of the community a chance to serve.

“It doesn’t mean the last vote getter can’t still apply,” Goetz said.

Applications for the position will be accepted through May 16 and interviews with applicants will be conducted by Trustee Pat Tetzlaff.  She will then bring forward a recommended candidate to the Village Board at its May 24 meeting for approval.

The winner will serve a one year term on the board and can run for election to the board in April 2012. A nominal stipend is given to the chosen candidate on a per meeting basis.
