Alderman May Face Primary in Re-Election Bid

Two residents have signaled their intent to challenge Oak Creek Alderman Dan Jakubczyk.

Two challengers have emerged for Oak Creek Alderman Dan Jakubczyk, which would force a primary to whittle the field to two.

Shawn Vollmer and Steven Kurkowski have taken out papers to run for Jakubczyk's 1st District seat, according to the city clerk's office. If all of the necessary paperwork is filed by Jan. 2, a primary will be held Feb. 19.

The top two vote-getters in the primary would be on the ballot in the April 2 general election.

The 1st District encompasses the city's northeast side (See a map of the districts here). Jakubczyk was first elected in 2009 and re-elected in 2011 with 56 percent of the vote.

No challengers have yet emerged for two other incumbent alderman, Jim Ruetz and Ken Gehl, running in the April election.

Aldermen are elected to two-year terms at an annual salary of $7,200; the council president makes $8,400.

Third district can't produce a candidate? Where's Dimity Grabowski in the fifth? She stated she was going to run to reclaim her seat now that Foekler and Lampe are no longer on the council and Bolender is no longer mayor. She'd shine on this council asking all the questions they don't want to answer and demanding answers. But then again she played her part in the secretive closed session voting promoting Wis Park agreements and didn't know she could discuss things outside the closed membership. In the long run it really doesn't matter as the contracts are all signed sealed and delivered. Business won't come and stay the expense will fall directly on the tax paying residents who didn't pay attention. TOO LITTLE TOO LATE. Onward christian soldiers.
