Woman Pleads Not Guilty on Charges of Having a Sexual Relationship With a Sussex Boy

Brittany Barcus makes her first appearance in court since waiving her preliminary hearing.

A 24-year-old woman accused of having a while living in Sussex last year has pled not guilty to the charges.

Brittany Barcus appeared in Monday for arraignment on three counts of second degree sexual assault of a child.

According to the criminal complaint, Barcus had a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy while living in Sussex in 2010. The two would have sex when her boyfriend would leave or when her children would be asleep.

Neighbors reported the two would walk around like boyfriend and girlfriend, and the relationship was exposed after Barcus showed another woman pictures of the boy she had on her cell phone, which raised concerns from the other woman.

Barcus, who currently resides in Hartland, will next appear in court Dec. 15. She remains free on a $100,000 signature bond.
