Woman Accused of Bouncing Checks for Almost $3,000 in Diesel Fuel

Woman allegedly wrote numerous bad checks to Citgo and never paid the station back for nearly $3,000 in charges and fees.

A Sturtevant woman is facing charges after she repeatedly bounced checks for diesel fuel at a Sussex gas station.

Sandra L. Nelson, 50, was charged in Thursday with one count of theft. If convicted, she faces up to nine months in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

Between July 27 and Sept. 2, Nelson filled up trucks for Don’s Towing and Truck Service on multiple occasions at . Each time she filled up the trucks, her checks would bounce, which added up to a total loss of $2,847.

The owner said Nelson had written bad checks to the business before, but in the past she has paid up when notified of the issue.

Nelson told police she planned to pay the bill after she deposited the checks, but as of Feb. 7 the bill was still unpaid.

She will make her initial appearance in court April 30.
