Police Catch Meat Thief at Piggly Wiggly

Suspect is spotted stealing meat on several occasions, including one instance in January where he took $100 in steaks. He's now facing $10,000 in fines.

A Waukesha man is facing charges after he got caught stealing meat from in Sussex on two separate occasions in January.

Mark S. Zyla, 53, was charged in Tuesday with two counts of retail theft. If convicted, he faces up to 18 months in prison and $10,000 in fines.

On Jan. 21, Waukesha County sheriff’s deputies were called to Piggly Wiggly after an employee spotted Zyla take four steaks, then walk around nervously and conceal them and walk out the store. The total value of the steaks was estimated at $100.

A manager at the store told police that Zyla came into the store on multiple occasions and stole steaks, including an incident on Jan. 7 where he stole steaks and a couple of roasts from the meat department.

He will make his initial appearance in court May 21.
