Sussex Woman Faces Joyriding Charge

Suspect, 18, took her mom's car with no permission or license because she was bored. She's now facing close to a year in prison and $10,000 in fines.

An 18-year-old Sussex woman is facing charges after she took her mother’s car to a friend’s house without permission because she was bored at home.

Brianna E. Biswell was charged in Tuesday with one count of joyriding. If convicted, she could face up to nine months in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

At 8:30 p.m. Sunday, police were called to a home in the W25000 block of Town Line Road in Town of Lisbon after Biswell contacted police and said her daughter had taken the car to the home without her consent. She also told police her daughter didn’t have a driver’s license and only has an instructional permit.

When police arrived at the home Biswell admitted to taking the car, saying she was bored at home because she didn’t have a cell phone or Internet connection so she could talk with friends, so she took the car.

She’s currently being held in Waukesha County Jail no $250 bond.

Or just after-school activities. When I was a senior in high school, I was involved in golf and theater all year... Some nights I didn't get home from a tournament or rehearsal till 9:30 p.m. I wasn't bored -- I was exhausted. lol

It's challenging for me to contribute my thoughts so i kept it simple. Reason being is that when I was 17 I had dropped out and worked full-time. It's also important for this person to know that the system doesn't have to fail them like i felt at this age. Parents are not to blame. Raising children is tough these days. they dont have farm fields to get lost in. I agree with you. since jobs are low ie; contractors willing to work at MC'D's while work is slow to make ends meet, etc. this makes jobs for teens/young adults hard to get. So yeah, after school activities, go for a walk, i dunno. Obviously I don't know the situation in the household but I'd provide a magic Jack phone for communication to the outside world. just a tough world right now, no matter where we live or are brought up.

Wow, not sure what I would do. My kids have cell phones, computers, tv/cable, and yet they still (sometimes) complain of boredom. Just can't make them happy 24/7.
I suppose the mom here did what she felt needed to be done to get the point across. Also depends on if this is the first time she has done this or not??

Exactly - maybe this was just the last straw, you know?

@Andy, THEY DONT HAVE AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES GOING ON A SUNDAY ya know?? hahaha so she doesn't have any phone or cell and basically feels like she doesn't have a life. Any teenager would! so she went and took the car without parents permission blah blah. BUT my only question is how is this girl 18 and still have only a permit?! Just wow, SHE JUST WANTS A LIFE! seeing friends or just hanging out is all that she wanted to do. and its okay she will be fine just hopefully get better aquatinted on the mum to actually have asocial life. ya dig?

@Bradley well said! I'm guessing this was a last straw and mom did what she felt was best. We don't know the home situation.
@Ramiro I didn't get a license until I was 18 and was still able to have a life. Being bored does not make it okay to steal a car. Doesn't matter if it was her moms or not. Its still theft.

@Kelly, i said SOCIAL LIFE. Of course this girl is going to rebel against authority figures such as her mother only because she has no one else to keep her mind track going in place. she feels like she's in hell and however what i say to you won't understand the insecurities she feels. Having to face criminal charges is no where near helping her out just to hang with some friends.

This is a very troubled adolescent and the parent did the right thing. There is a reason why she does not have a drivers license and the parent is just looking out for the safety of not only her daughter but the safety of family and innocent people on the street.
