A Sussex man is facing charges after he tried to pass a stolen check at a Pewaukee Pick ‘n Save, but was thwarted because the cashier knew the person who was listed on the check.
Alexander J. Drljaca, 25, was charged in Friday with one count of uttering a forgery. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint:
On March 7, Drljaca went to the Pewaukee store and tried to buy $41 in items with a forged check. He then presented it and a stolen license to the cashier, however, the cashier knew the man on the ID, and stopped the transaction.
Drljaca quickly left the store, but police later found him where he admitted to the attempt, saying he found a checkbook and ID in the parking lot.
He will make his initial appearance in court May 14.
