Sussex Man Caught Allegedly Siphoning Diesel Fuel

Suspect apologizes to police, saying he's down on his luck and couldn't afford to buy gas.

A 51-year-old Sussex man is facing charges after he was caught allegedly trying to siphon diesel fuel from trucks in Town of Lisbon.

Edward J. Prebelski was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Tuesday with two counts of attempted theft. If convicted, he faces up to nine months in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

At 4:18 a.m. Aug. 10, Waukesha County sheriff’s deputies were called to the W25100 block of Indian Grass Lane after someone spotted Prebelski stealing diesel fuel from trucks. When the deputies arrived, they saw Prebelski siphoning fuel from one of the trucks.

He admitted to the theft saying he stole five gallons from one truck and was planning to take more from the second truck. He said he took the fuel because he’s down on his luck and can’t afford gas.

Prebelski will make his initial appearance in court Oct. 1.
