Sussex Man Accused of Stealing More Than $10K from Sussex Auto

Suspect, 26, stole cash and checks from his dad's business and jewelry from his stepmother.

A 26-year-old Sussex man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly stole jewelry from his stepmother and more than $10,000 worth of cash and checks from his dad’s business.

Nicholas S. Strobel Jr. was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count of burglary, one count of theft valued between $2,500 and $5,000, two counts of identity theft, one count of theft valued at more than $10,000 and one count of uttering a forgery. If convicted, he faces up to 44 years in prison and $90,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, on Aug. 16 Strobel’s stepmother discovered two rings kept inside a jewelry box underneath her bed had been taken. After confronting him about it, Strobel admitted taking the items and turning them in for money at a Midwest Gold Buyers location in the town of Brookfield.

Strobel’s father, who owns , was initially hesitant to press charges against his son, but he soon discovered a number of blank checks had been stolen from his business and cashed by Strobel. Another $10,112 in cash was also missing from the safe, which Strobel had access to while working at the shop.

Strobel is being held in Waukesha County Jail on a $5,000 signature bond.
