Sussex Man Accused of Severely Injuring Wife

A doctor at Waukesha Memorial Hospital told investigators that the woman will need surgery to fix damage from past abuse, according to a criminal complaint.

A 48-year-old Sussex man, already convicted of strangulation and suffocation in 2010, faces new domestic abuse charges after a doctor told his wife she needed surgery from the ongoing abuse, according to a criminal complaint.

Sussex Patch is not naming the man in order to protect the identity of his wife. The man was charged Feb. 1 with felony battery and disorderly conduct. He faces up to seven years and three months in prison if convicted.

Authorities were called to a home in Wales on Jan. 21 after the man’s wife reported he grabbed her by the neck and squeezed her arm while telling her he was going to "get her" for abuse.

The woman told a Waukesha County Sheriff’s Deputy her husband called her at 10 p.m. and questioned her where she was. When she told him she was at the gas station, he accused her of going there to perform sexual acts on someone. He then told her he was coming to her house to take her vehicle from her residence, according to the complaint.

While at the residence, the man twice grabbed her throat or neck during disagreements, the complaint said. Once the woman fought her off, leading him to grab her arm. Later, the woman told police, the man curled her legs up toward her head, hurting her back.

In the past, she told police, he has severely injured her hands and wrists.

A radiologist at Waukesha Memorial Hospital told authorities that the continuous abuse caused the woman’s wrist to wear away in the joint. The only way to fix the problem, the doctor said, is surgery.
