Quarry Mart Robbery Defendant Identified by Waukesha Police Officer, Complaint Says

A 43-year-old Waukesha man is accused of robbing a Town of Lisbon gas station with a sawed-off shotgun Feb. 23, 2012, according to a criminal complaint filed Wednesday in Waukesha County Circuit Court.

Gustavo Valdez was charged Wednesday with armed robbery. He faces up to 27 years in prison and $100,000 in fines if convicted. Valdez is scheduled to be in court Friday for an initial appearance.

Valdez has past criminal convictions, including an incident last year that ended in him getting tasered four times in Waukesha after barricading himself in a shed with a pitbull and a knife.

Valdez is accused of holding up the Quarry Mart Mobile, N52W23206 Lisbon Road, at 7:20 p.m. Feb. 23, 2012. Witnesses reported to the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department that a man entered the gas station with a sawed-off shotgun and robbed the business, according to the complaint

“I have a gun, make sure you grab everything out of the drawer,” he told a gas station employee, according to the complaint. “Is it worth losing your life over money? Is it worth losing your life?”

The man fled on foot from the scene. When still photographs were released of the suspect, the school resource officer at Waukesha North High School recognized him as the father of a student at the school, according to the complaint. Valdez’s probation agent also reviewed the tapes, identifying Valdez as the suspect.

Other witnesses identified Valdez as the suspect after seeing his picture on the news, the complaint states.
