UPDATE: Mysterious Morning Fire Destroys Three Cars

The fire is leaving employees and the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department looking for an answer as to what caused the blaze.

A Monday morning fire at Kelly's Greenscapes on Waukesha Avenue near Main Street completely totaled three cars and caused significant heat damage to a fourth.

Firefighters received a call at 6:17 a.m. saying there was a car on fire in the business' parking lot, but while driving to the scene, they were notified another one was up in flames and ready to take over a third vehicle.

Deputy Fire Chief Tony Emanuele said by the time firefighters got there, all three cars were completely totaled with a fourth vehicle suffering from heat damage because it was so close.

"All four vehicles were parked in a row," Emanuele said. "We used about 1,000 gallons of water and got the fire under control in about 10 minutes. It was under control so shortly because we had 14 personnel respond with four pieces of equipment. It was all Sussex fire fighters and they came out in a force."

"I'm not trying to assume anyone did it, but we have no idea what happened..."

Thankfully there were no injuries, but neither Chief Emanuele nor Jeff Geske, an employee at Kelly's Greenscapes, have any idea what caused the blaze.

Geske was working in the yard near the destroyed vehicles when Patch arrived, and he said he doesn't know how much damage the fire caused or whether it was started on purpose.

"I'm not trying to assume anyone did it, but we have no idea what happened," Geske said.

The destructive blaze is currently under investigation by arson specialists at the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department, and Public Information Officer Steve Pederson said they're unable to nail down a cause.

"It sounds like one vehicle, like a dump truck or something from the landscaping company, caught fire, and as a result of that vehicle catching fore, the other two caught fire," Pederson said. "We're still trying to determine if we can discover what the cause of the fire was."
