Meet Lt. Misko, New Director of Police Services

Sheriff elects Lt. Torin Misko as the next director of police services for Sussex after Lt. James Gumm's recent promotion to Captain.

Lt. Torin Misko wouldn’t say he feels pressure with his new position as director of police services for the Village of Sussex, rather an opportunity and learning experience he looks forward to.

After working with the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department since 2004, the 30-year-old Misko is trained and excited to pick up where longtime director Capt. James Gumm left off.

“Capt. Gumm is full of all kinds of words of wisdom,” joked Misko. On a more serious and grateful note, Misko said: “He has done an outstanding job in the community.”

Sheriff Daniel Trawicki thanked Gumm for his dedicated service to the Village of Sussex and said he did an outstanding job handling a variety of issues through out the community.

“While Capt. Gumm’s presence will be missed in Sussex, his replacement Lt. Torin Misko will bring these same qualifications to this unique position,” said Trawicki.

“He has demonstrated a unique ability to problem solve through good communication.”

Misko’s first goal is to learn more about what the community wants and needs on all levels, citizens, businesses, and officials. He said he wants to gain insight on everyone’s expectations and establish strong relationships within the village.

“I want to establish an open-line of communication with leaders and officials, which will help create the best possible police service,” Misko said.

Jeremy Smith, village administrator, already believes Misko will service the village well.

“Lt. Misko brings a lot of relevant experience to the position," Smith said. "We look forward to working with him and the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department to continue providing excellent police service in Sussex.”

Lt. Misko has worked as a corrections officer, a detective, and with the Waukesha County Metro Drug Unit. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.

The director of police services oversees the daily operations of the police force and establishes a network between police and the community.

“Both Lt. Misko and I are committed to maintaining that small town atmosphere we all love in Sussex, while continuing to bring outstanding professional police services to the community,” Trawicki said.
