McDonald's Trip Leads to Felony Charges for Sussex Man

Suspect is charged with his fifth OWI after he goes through the drive-thru drunk Sunday morning.

A 50-year-old Sussex man is facing a felony drunk driving charge after he went through the McDonald’s drive-thru drunk Sunday morning.

Steven C. Stahl was charged in Monday with one count of fifth offense operating while intoxicated, one count of operating a motor vehicle after revocation of his license and one count of bail jumping. If convicted, he faces up to nearly eight years in prison and $22,500 in fines.

A 1:44 a.m. Sunday, Stahl went through the drive-thru at the when one of the workers noticed he smelled like whiskey and could barely keep his eyes open. The employee alerted a manager who then called police.

Stahl was pulled over a short time later on Main Street doing 40 miles per hour in a 25 miles per hour speed zone.

He then failed a set of field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level of 0.155, which is nearly twice the legal limit to drive in Wisconsin.

Stahl was previously convicted of OWI in 2000, 2003, 2004 and 2009. He’s currently being held in Waukesha County Jail on $5,000 cash bail.
