Man Fakes Doctor on Phone to Take 20 Pills a Day, Complaint Says

Dale Kusick, who is incarcerated in Waupun, tells Waukesha County deputies he has a "high tolerance" for pain medication and he was surprised pharmacy hadn't "caught on" to fake prescriptions, according to a criminal complaint.

A 49-year-old man, who is accused of calling in fraudulent prescriptions to a Sussex pharmacy using his doctor’s name, faces up to 28 years in prison if convicted.

Dale Kusick was charged with four counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud in Waukesha County Circuit Court on Friday. The penalties for the four felonies is normally 12 years maximum initial confinement, however, Kusick faces additional prison time because he has a lengthy criminal record.

A warrant has been filed for Kusick’s arrest as he remains incarcerated in Waupun.

Kusick called Shopko, N66-W25201 Main St., stating he was a New Berlin doctor four times in September to obtain hydrocodone, the complaint states.

Shopko contacted the doctor, asking via a letter if the prescriptions were legitimate. The doctor did not prescribe the pills, according to the compliant, but acknowledged that the doctor saw Kusick as a patient one time.

Kusick admitted to being addicted to drugs, taking 20 or more pills a day because he has a “high tolerance,” the complaint states.  He also admitted to pretending he was the doctor on the phone and that he was surprised Shopko hadn’t “caught on.”
