Man Accused of Stealing Checks From His Dad

Police say the suspect admits to the theft, saying he needed money for gas and synthetic marijuana.

A 19-year-old Sussex man is accused of stealing checks from his father, then cashing them to buy gas and synthetic marijuana.

Joshua R. Kueffler was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Wednesday with four counts of identity theft and one count of theft. If convicted, he faces up to nearly 13 years in prison and $50,000 in fines.

Pewaukee police officers were called to a home in the 1300 block of Hillwood Boulevard after a man living there discovered several checks had been taken from his home and cashed in December for a total loss of $635. The man said Kueffler is his son and suspected him in the theft.

Officers spoke to Kueffler who admitted to taking the checks and cashing them. He said he needed money to buy gas and synthetic marijuana.Β
