Hartland Teen Charged After Leading Police on Foot Chase Through Sussex

A 17-year-old Hartland boy is facing charges after he tried to run from Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department deputies in Sussex.

Kalman J. Farkas was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count of obstructing an officer, one count of disorderly conduct and one count of bail jumping. If convicted, he faces up to 21 months in prison and $21,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

A resident in a Sussex neighborhood spotted Farkas outside a home in the N6000 block of Teakwood Court smoking a cigarette. The resident believed Farkas was wanted by police and called to have him arrested.

The complaint states the occupant of the home tried to convince Farkas to come out when police arrived, however, he refused, saying he didn’t want to go back to jail. Farkas then jumped out of a window in the rear of the residence, which led officers to chase after him on foot.

The complaint states officers were able to catch him behind the on Waukesha Avenue, at which time he began to scream obscenities at them and bang his head against the window of a squad car several times.

Farkas had a blood alcohol level of 0.16 at the time of the incident, the complaint states.
