Obituary: Robert Earl Canada

This Sussex resident passed away at 61-years-old.

April 30, 1950 - March 27, 2012

Robert Earl Canada of Sussex, WI has been welcomed by our Lord and Savior March 27 at 61-years-old.

He was born to Mary Canada (Dilts) and the late Harold (Brownie) Canada on April 30, 1950. Bob attended Galesburg High School, in Galesburg Illinois and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Purdue University in 1972.

He married Carole Ann Uebelhor in 1973 and lived in Indianapolis, IN before relocating to Sussex, WI in 1978. Bob began his very successful medical equipment and research career with Coulter Electronics where he established many friends and fond memories. He started working with his most recent employer, Drew Scientific, in January of 1993 as the Director of Research Sales. 

In quoting his employer, “Bob made the Hemavet a household name and both he and the instrument have been and still are involved in many of the most important research studies of the last 20+ years.”

As his expertise grew, Bob enjoyed educating and training others in his beloved field of work. Bob was an active member of Redeemer United Church of Christ, Sons of Thunder Motorcycle Group, Retzer Apple Fest, the Stearman Fly In and many other community and school activities over the years. He loved a good Harley ride, walking his dog Lily, spent hours and hours keeping up his garden, yard and trees.

Bob was always so generous, making sure to share his bountiful garden harvest with anyone who was interested. Bass Lake was also a favorite way to spend spare time hanging out with all the family and friends. Loved ones remembered Bob’s practical jokes, funny songs, and amazing stories.  

Robert was the loving husband of the late Carole Canada of Sussex, WI. He was the admired and devoted father of Amy Canada of Hartland, WI; Rebekah Canada of Oconomowoc, WI; and David Canada of Beavercreek, Ohio. The son of Mary Canada of Galesburg, IL:  Sister: Marylee (Mike) Shoback of Monument, CO; and brother:  Jim Canada (Marta) of St. Louis, MO. 

He is survived by his mother-in-law Virginia McPike of Indianapolis, IN; brother-in-law Joseph Uebelhor of Martinsville, IN; nine nieces and nephews and two grand nieces and nephew. Bob is also survived by a loving host of relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his father:  Harold (Brownie) Canada and Fathers-in-law: Charles McPike and Albert Uebelhor. 

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday March 31. The family will welcome relatives and friends for visitation from 2 p.m. until the time of the Service at 4 p.m. at Redeemer United Church of Christ; W220N4915 Town Line Rd, Menomonee Falls, WI 53051, 262-246-6710, www.redeemerucc.org 

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Friends of Retzer Nature Center www.friendsofretzer.org, Redeemer UCC, or the Charity of your choice in Bob’s honor.
