Ken was a devoted husband and family man.  He served in WWII in 1946.  He married the love of his life on October 25th, 1947.  He briefly worked as a mason and bread delivery man for Yaeger Bakery.  He and Lois, along with a friend, Ken Schlei, started a small diner in downtown Sussex.  After closing the diner, he became a carpenter and built homes and later cabinets for Joseph Nigbor Builders.  He built the house he lived in his whole married life, in Sussex, next to the house he grew up in.  He retired at age 53.  In retirement, he built his son John’s house and helped build his son Jerry’s house.  In 1985, he began helping his daughter by cutting craft wood for her.  He helped her set up and sell at craft fairs, something he very much enjoyed doing.

Ken was an avid outdoorsman.  He loved hunting and fishing.  Many years were spent duck hunting with Gerry Braeger and deer hunting with his sons.  Ken bowled for many years but in mid-life, he found his other passion-horseshoes.  He travelled to tournaments, started a club that ran for many years at the Sussex VFW, and played competitively into his 80’s. He also played dartball. Ken was a lifetime member of the VFW and was very active in Sussex Post 6377.  His later years would find him cheering his grandchildren at numerous sporting events.  He had many friends who he loved to visit.
