The Finals for the 2013 WIAA State Wrestling Tournament was held at the Kohl Center in Madison, WI on Saturday, February 23rd, 2013. The top high school wrestlers met up for the championship round. There were some returning champions wanting to recapture another state title. New faces were also on the mat eyeing for their chance at the gold.

Colin Baine, Wausau West took home his second championship title this night. He has a title at 113 lb from 2012 and at 120 lb in 2013. Jake Stilling, Elkhorn Area also took home his second championship both at the 170 lb weight class.

Jenz Lantz, Ellsworth in Division 2 took home his third championship this year. Each of his titles are in different weight classes. He won the 103 lb title in 2011, the 113 lb title in 2012 and the 120 lb title in 2013.

Jacob Morrissey from Oconto Falls in Division 2 returned again this year to capture his third consecutive title at the 170 lb weight class. Morrisey had his fourth trip to the finals this year. As a freshman, he lost in overtime and took second place.

Division 2 Newton Smerchek, Luxemberg-Casco now holds two consecutive titles at the 285 lb weight class for 2012 and 2013.

Cole Johnson, De Soto took home his second consecutive title again this year at the 285 lb weight class in Division 3.

For the first time ever at 152 lbs in Division 1, a freshman took home the title. Beau Breske from Hartford Union left the mat with his first state title. Many who came to the watch the state tournament were not expecting to see Breske at the final. Those who know him were not surprised at all.
