Short Story Magic

The short story is experiencing new popularity today and its techniques are an excellent jumping off point to novels, screen plays, and popular biographies. Begin by looking at the source of the story energy and the story design. Then, while writing individually and working on a story together, we will apply techniques of beat, scene, sequence, and dis-covery. We will consider: scenes and structure, techniques for building reader interest, use of setting and significant detail, beginning-middle-end point of view, writing as discovery, emotional beats and titles, first sentences and endings. Please bring in samples of your work for group feedback. Please bring a lunch!
