Qualifications
Two years of study at an institution of higher education, an associate’s degree (or higher), or high school graduation and knowledge of and the ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing and mathematics; successful work experience in dealing with students, parents and members of the community; experience working with special education students preferred; certification (or certifiable) by DPI as a Special Education Program Aide; and such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education finds appropriate and acceptable.
Requirements
To assist the teacher or other certified personnel in achieving teaching objectives by working with students with special education needs (EBD, LD, CD, visually impaired, autism, orthopedically impaired, toileting assistance, field trips, etc.) in special education classroom and/or small group settings. Other responsibilities include supervision of students in the cafeteria, on the playground and during arrival and dismissal (this may include bus supervision).
