As 2011 comes to a close, Sussex Patch looks back at the top stories of the year, month by month. Here’s a recap of the news that made headlines in Sussex.

Just , the group behind the move to recall Republican Gov. Scott Walker said Monday it has gathered more than 300,000 signatures — more than half the number needed to force a recall election.

A November night’s bitterly cold temperatures didn’t stop residents from dusting off their signs, pulling out their clipboards and standing outside  to gather Gov. Scott Walker recall signatures.

An early morning fire caused about $240,000 in damage to a single-family, two-story home in the W24000 block of Clover Drive. Nobody was injured during the fire, which started at about 2:45 a.m. The cause still remains under investigation but there seems to be absolutely no reason to believe it was arson, said Sussex Fire Chief Colin "Corky" Curtis. The cause of the fire is currently classified as undetermined.

Under a new village ordinance, businesses are allowed to post signs at every major entrance announcing they aren’t allowing people with a concealed weapon to enter the building. Business owners can call the police on anyone who disregards the signs.

The communications director for the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) was arrested on suspicion of possessing or distributing child pornography at his Waukesha home, according to a news release from the  Joel W. Hochmuth, 52, was arrested in the 1900 block of Hunter Court after detectives were alerted by the FBI Cyber Crimes Task Force “that a person at this residence was involved in the distribution of child pornography,” the release states.

It was  in June, owners were  in July and  proved false. But now, Boneyard Pub & Grille has finally opened its doors to customers. The restaurant first had a soft opening on Nov. 16 to work out all the kinks, and then officially opened its doors on Black Friday to customers. While no grand opening has been planned, the business says one is still in the works.
