As 2011 comes to a close, Sussex Patch looks back at the top stories of the year, month by month. Here’s a recap of the news that made headlines in Sussex.

Where Should New Village Hall Be Located?

Members of the village’s Village Hall Study Group said they favor the use of the current campus with a new building, which would also allow for the planned future expansion of the . This was later confirmed when the group wrapped up the study group in October.

Three boys and one girl, all in their 20s, drove through Menomonee Falls with this huge plant in their car, but none of them were even from Sussex or Menomonee Falls. A Menomonee Falls police officer noticed a Cadillac Escalade doing 50 mph in a 30 mph zone near Appleton Avenue and Ridge Road. After pulling the vehicle over, he noticed a large marijuana plant pressed against the rear window of the vehicle.

Everyone remembers those powerful storms, and if I recall correctly, a few tornadoes, that touched down in Wisconsin earlier this year. For some, the frightening reality was a yard with toppled trees and thousands of homes without power.

June was the first month where residents grieving over Seigo’s Steakhouse closing could begin to see the light. The Plan Commission gave unanimous approval for to set up shop in the old location, and now, it's open!

It was June, but the budget battle still wasn't close to being over. Public employee unions filed a lawsuit to block implementation of the budget repair bill and sweeping changes to public sector unions and collective bargaining. Six major unions were a part of the lawsuit. 

A bomb threat was found in a bathroom at the high school at the end of the school day and investigators were called in to look into the threat. People at the school didn't think the threat was credible, and luckily it wasn't. 

Plans to remodel or redesign the downtown to go along side a were tossed around in June. At the time, officials at the store said a decision wouldn't be made for some time, but the remodel was later approved in September by the Architecural Review Board.
