Renovations Begin at Piggly Wiggly

Store looks to expand its offerings while maintaining its small size for shoppers.

Expansion and renovations are underway at the Sussex , which will continue well into 2012.

According to a report in the Sussex Sun, the store’s owners are currently working to renovate the interior of the store in order to expand capacity and inventory. The store is also undertaking exterior improvements, which according to village documents, includes replacing swing doors with electric sliding doors in the front of the building.

The renovations will allow the store to expand its capacity and update equipment, but maintain its small size compared to other area grocery stores.

I am a pretty regular shopper here, go there 2-3 times a week most weeks since I live behind the library and I walk there a lot. I was there yesterday and they already started on meat and produce departments and my opinion is they are looking great! They have several buckets of apples like you'd see at an apple farm in their produce department. They look really neat, and I am going to feel like I am having fun picking apples out of them! The rest of the produce stuff looks a lot more organized. I am not sure but they may be putting the reduced produce in with the non-reduced produce of the same kind of produce now. I'm talking about the 99 cent produce they used to have where they had bagged lettuce and packaged bell peppers for 99 cents before but other items at times as well. The beef products been moved from near processed food area to near the freezer next to produce so that bin that used to hold pork chops and chicken now holds beef, chicken and pork products...the bin that used to hold steaks and such right now is holding beef points for st. pat's day...not sure what will go there after st. pats day, maybe more hams for easter as they did not seem to have much ham out. overall the stuff I saw the other day that was started to be renovated was way a lot more organized looking. I think I am going to like the new setup.
