“McDonald’s has a new modern look that it’s trying to achieve for their buildings,” said Dion Conn, owner of the Sussex McDonald’s. “It’s an iconic, brick exterior with (Exterior Insulation and Finishing System) panels on it so it will be a much more modern-looking building that will fit better into the community.”

The new look will have red brick, cream color cultured stone and aluminum accent panels around the window play area.

The gateway canopies over the drive through lanes will be replaced with a white metal exterior and will be the same height as they are now. When the McDonald’s was built in 1996, there was no requirement for a conditional use permit for a drive through but the code has since changed.

“The Plan Commission has supported the exterior façade improvements,” village administrator Jeremy Smith said, “The Architectural Review Board has also recommended support of those façade improvements and the last step in this journey is for a conditional use permit for the drive through.”
