Designing Success One Dog at a Time

Kim's Canine Design will bring full service dog grooming to Sussex when it opens Oct. 1.

In 1993, Kim Magdic began down a path in dog grooming that has brought her success in both her craft and success.

Magdic took an apprenticeship under one of the top dog groomers in the country and honed her skills for nine years. She began working for a veterinarian in Butler, but her allergic reaction to cats pushed her to explore her own business where she could perform her work without them around.

“I just loved it,” she said. “But I was allergic so I just needed to do it somewhere where felines aren’t involved.”

Magdic opened up Kim’s Canine Design in Butler, but is now moving her business to the Sussex Plaza, N64W22656 Main St. and planning to open Oct. 1.

Magdic lives in Sussex and she said the new location will be bigger than her current space. She offers full service dog grooming, which includes bathing and trims.

She will also offer a few products clients can purchase and she will have another person working with her to help take larger breeds of dogs.

“Right now I primarily do small dogs,” she said. “It’s currently too hard by myself because I can’t lift an 80 pound dog by myself.”

And for residents who might be interested in trying Kim’s shop for their dog grooming needs once it opens in Sussex, they will be glad to know Magdic takes special care of each dog she works with.

“I think they’ll be very happy because I take pride in my work,” she said. “I take pride in being a face groomer and treating every dog as if it were my own.”
