The Return to Sussex: Small Town Vs. City Living

This blog post is about my upcomming move back to the village, and growing up in Sussex, WI.

After recently attending a wedding, many friends suggested my family and I move back to my home town of Sussex.

We've shared many life experiences living here in West Bend, but raising my children in the community has brought forth many challenges. Living in West Bend has its benefits of affordability, as far as renting more spacious living quarters compared to higher taxed areas like the Waukesha County suburbs.

However, it is disappointing to see how many parents out here in West Bend are not involved in their childrens' lives as much as they should or could be. This has left an impact on what our children have been subjected to in our apartment complex.

I feel that living in a community with people you know your whole life is hard to give up, but my family needs this move more than ever.

We are set and ready to move to Sussex come June. It is amazing how much stuff we've accumulated over the years. Much of it is useful, much decorative and much hard to give up due to sentimental value.

Growing up in Sussex was tough because there was not much to do when I was a kid. Many friends of mine would badmouth Sussex, stating it was boring with nothing to do, but I always found something to do.

I'm 30-years-old now, but when I was 10, I finally started to get neighbors after the construction of the four apartment complexes in my old Sussex neighborhood. I feel that socializing is important for children and adults alike, but when it is out of hand like it is here in West Bend, many problems arise.

Thanks for reading!

Brad, I enjoyed reading your positive comments about Sussex. We have lived here for 12 years, and are raising our kids here as well. I feel that Sussex, even though it is a small community, has a wealth of opportunities and my kids LOVE it here! I am also a local real estate agent, and I promote Sussex because I think it is such a great place to raise a family. Please feel free to contact me if I can help you find a new home in Sussex (kplechaty@firstweber.com)!! : ) Kris Plechaty

Thanks Kris, We have some financial bumps to get over from the past and I'll definitely let you know when we are looking. Right now we just need to get out of this dead zone.
