Teens Eat Up at the Library's Chili Cook-Off

Teens and Hamilton students filled their bellies and brains at Pauline Haass Public Library's cook-off.

teen chili cook-off on Thursday was a smashing success as three chilis were submitted and 11 teens stepped up to pick the winner, library organizers said.

The hour long taste-test was not only about chili, but also about the hottest new reads for teens. Kara Rosenthal, the library's Youth Services and Young Adult Coordinator, set up a stand and presented the newest trend in teen reading.

As Rosenthal explained, the hottest genre right now is where authors craft a dystopian society. Much like the smash-hit series The Hunger Games, these books paint a picture where, in the not too distant future, the government is in full control.

The chili cook-off was also the perfect break for students looking to take a break. Most of the attendees at the event got together at the library to study for their advanced placement classes.

In the end, the second of three chilis was chosen as the best.
