Sussex’s Annual Rock-A-Thon: Huge Event for a Good Cause

To kick-start the summer, Sussex is hosting its annual Rock-A-Thon event complete with freshly grilled burgers & brats, and live music. Patch will even be there, so mark your calendars!

The Village of Sussex is holding its annual on the Village Hall’s front lawn, and what better way to kick-start summer than with live music and a good-old-fashioned cookout?

Scheduled for Tuesday, May 15 between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., the event is geared toward hungry lunchtime community members and area employees. For $4, people get a freshly grilled burger or brat, chips, pickle and a drink all while enjoying live music from area favorite Dante’s Bop, a southern soul and country band.

Along with a tasty bake sale, Patch will even be there handing out goodies and hanging out with everyone (even we can’t pass up a good cookout).

However, the event is about more than having a great time. All the proceeds from the event are going toward area senior citizens, and according to Parks and Recreation Director Amy Flaherty, the village has some pretty odd ideas planned.

“It’s actually senior citizen month, so this event was created to celebrate them,” Flaherty said. “The money we raise helps fund our senior programing. The event is really laid back, but we also physically have rocking chairs out on the lawn so people can ‘rock’ while waving to drivers on Main Street.”

Bad puns aside, the Rock-A-Thon is staffed by village officials and employees, so come out, say hello and have a good time.
