Sussex Ranks Near Top in Quality-of-Life Study

The village sits near the top 25 percent of Midwest communities in residents' quality-of-life.

Right off the heels of being named the , Sussex has been voted the 276th Midwestern community in a quality-of-life survey by The Business Journal. The study looked at 955 communities.

The Journal used a 20-point test that included things like , health, traffic, costs of living and housing stocks. Sussex's total ranking earned a 71 percent, while neighboring community Menomonee Falls pulled in a 76 percent in quality-of-life.

Chicago suburbs dominated the ranking after landing the top four communities in the Midwest, the number one place being Winnetka in Chicago's North Shore. It's median household income is more than $200,000 and over 87 percent of its adults have a bachelor's degree.

Whitefish Bay was voted Wisconsin's number one community landing the 20th spot in the Midwest, immediately followed by Mequon in the 21st position. And suburbs dominated the quality-of-life ranking. Madison was voted the number one large city in Wisconsin at 265, and Milwaukee rated very poorly at 868.

However, the Wisconsin community with the worst ranking was Whitewater ranking at 917.
