Live Music & Beer at Weyer Park Thursday

For the third year in a row, the  is hosting the free  series at , and this Thursday kicks off the streak of events. 

Between 6 and 8 p.m., village residents are invited to head to Weyer Park – behind and the – to munch on brats and burgers, and listen to Annie B & the Vagabond Company. The band describes itself as high-energy rock with a "groovy" feel, with people describing Annie B's voice as a cross between the sounds of Alanis Morisette and Ann Wilson.

Parks and Rec Director Amy Flaherty is hoping to make a splash with this summer's Sounds of Sussex series, so this year the event boasts an extra attraction.

“Parks and Rec provides the bands, and people can bring their lawn chairs and blankets to Weyer Park,” Flaherty said. “The Rec department sells burgers and brats, and this year we’ll also be selling beer for the first time.”

Sounds of Sussex happens at Weyer Park on the third Thursday of each summer month, with Andrea & the Mods Band coming to the village in July and West of East slated for August.

In addition, a ribbon-cutting event for the in Weyer Park is slated for 5 p.m. on Thursday, just before Sounds of Sussex begins. The new children’s trail, sponsored by Sports Network and United Way, is the fourth of its kind in Waukesha County.

"Born Learning Trails help parents, grandparents, caregivers and the community create quality, earlylearning opportunities for young children," United Way said in a statement. "Included in the trail are signs with suggested activities for adults and children to participate in together. For instance, the Watch! Stop! Learn! Play! sign encourages caregivers to follow the child’s lead, building the child’s curiosity and confidence."

Flaherty said the ribbon-cutting ceremony at Weyer Park, in addition to Annie B's performance, should make for a great crowd at Sounds of Sussex.
