The quality of the daily commute for Sussex workers is in the middle third of small cities nationwide, according to The Business Journals.

TBJ’s On Numbers statistical study of commute times ranked Sussex 1,266th among 3,012 communities nationwide with populations between 10,000 and 50,000.

The study awarded points for all commuters who traveled less than 30 minutes to work, but subtracted them for those whose commutes were more than 30 minutes, according to the five-year version of the 2009 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Sussex had 71 percent of its workers fall in the under-30-minute category.

Best and Worst

Best in Wisconsin was Marinette, 36th on the list. More than 92 percent of the workers in the city near Green Bay travel less than 30 minutes to work.

Muskego was worst among Wisconsin small cities, ranked 1,978th. Almost 40 percent of Muskego workers travel more than 30 minutes.

Altus, OK was tops on the national list; a full 80 percent drive less than 15 minutes.
