History Remembered In Narrow Winding Roads

Construction of wide, modern highways often leaves narrow winding, sharp-cornered routes behind, as is the case with this short section of Lisbon Road.

To the left of this old bridge is a 90-degree, 20 mph curve on what used to be Lisbon Road. The roadway that remains southeast of Sussex is barely two lanes wide and was decades ago replaced with today's wide, sweeping Lisbon Road. When the tires of now classic cars and trucks first crossed this bridge, it was the state-of-the-art in road design and construction.
