This low-slung, 1960s ranch-style school was preceded by seven schools that date back to the days of the area's earliest settlers. Maple Avenue Elementary was built in 1960, with additions and renovations in 1964, 1966 and a $6.5-million addition in 2001.

The school's Building Character Program highlights respect, responsibility, caring and fairness. Another program, specifically for 5th graders, called STAR (Students Taking Additional Responsibility) developes leadership through school and community service projects.
