Sussex Woman Building Non-Profit Dog Rescue, ‘Good Dogs Go Home’

"Good Dogs Go Home" places unwanted dogs in Sussex area homes to avoid shelters and find new permanent homes, and one local woman is making her dream a reality.

For LeAnne Pomeroy, training and caring for dogs has been a passion since she was in the 4H Club at the tender age of 5. After growing up on a farm in West Bend, she moved to Sussex with her family when she was 15. Today, Pomeroy’s passion for animals remains as strong as ever, and it’s the driving force behind her efforts to build a not-for-profit dog rescue service called Good Dogs Go Home. “Good Dogs Go Home is based on a foster home so the dogs never go to a shelter,” said Pomeroy. “We take dogs mostly from families that can no longer keep them because of financial reasons, or because maybe they didn’t do enough research and the breed that they got is not right for them.” Pomeroy, who accepts dogs and other animals like rabbits and …

Quad Sales and Earnings Drop for Second Consecutive Quarter

The company reported another drop in net sales for the first quarter of 2012. This comes after reporting a drop in overall sales in 2011.

The rough times haven't passed yet for Sussex's Quad/Graphics, Inc. After reporting a drop in net sales in its fourth quarter, and a drop in full-year sales in 2011, the company again comes bearing bad news. Quad reports its net sales for the first quarter of 2012 were $990 million versus $1,022 million for the same period in 2011. In addition, the company's earnings are reported at $126 million versus $142 million for the same period last year.  However, according to Joel Quadracci, Quad/Graphics Chairman, President & CEO, the drop in net sales and earnings are "in line" with the company's expectations.  “Our performance during the first quarter gave us a solid start to the year,” said Quadracci. “Our results are in line with our …

Heat2O Fitness Center Opens in Sussex

After construction delays, Heat2O Fitness opens in Sussex Monday with its high-tech new machinery and group classes.

Featuring nine group fitness classes on Pilates, yoga and more, and stocked with some of the most advanced  machinery on the market, Heat2O opens in Sussex with a bang on Monday. Patch in February reported business owner Karen Welch’s plans to open the fitness center, and construction is finally nearing completion. Located on Executive Drive next door to her current highly successful cheerleading business Heat Athletics, Heat2O is just awaiting a few additional items while employees put on the finishing touches. However, opening a new business wouldn’t be without its struggles. Welch initially had plans to open the fitness center in early April, but construction delays and missing equipment led to delays in opening the 5,200-square-foot …

Business Owners Getting Serious About Killing Roundabouts

A family owned business in the heart of downtown is telling Sussex residents to "Tell Village No to Roundabouts," and with their property on the line, the owners are getting nervous.

The new message to Sussex residents: “Tell Village No to Roundabouts.” It’s plastered on a huge sign in the heart of downtown Sussex. With the first official meeting among Village Board members to discuss the Main Street construction project scheduled for Tuesday, Toots and P.J. Cain are doing everything they can to get residents to show up and oppose roundabouts. The Cains are the owners of Paul’s Service, a second-generation, family owned auto body shop on the corner of Main Street and Maple Avenue. If the village chooses to construct a roundabout on that corner, Paul’s Service could be in line for some real changes. “We’ll be affected big time because they’re talking about taking in the edge of the road between 8 and 15 feet to …

I want to thank the Village Trustees for listening and acting on the round-about issue. It is great to know that the walkers and children will still be safe and get to enjoy the downtown area, library, parks and of course the bugline. Thank-you for listening to the citizens concerns, we are proud that our trustees recognized how the round-abouts would affect the small town atmosphere that the …   more ›

Frustrated Radisson Hotel Contractors Ask, 'Where's Our Money?'

More than one year after the hotel opened in downtown Menomonee Falls, many contractors say they have yet to be paid for their work — and they're looking for answers.

Menomonee Falls' new Radisson Hotel has been the target of a fair share of controversy in just its first year in business. However, those troubles may be getting deeper. Numerous subcontractors have gone to court because they claim they are owed more than $3 million for work they've done and haven't been paid for. The uncertainty surrounding the hotel’s future has a group of subcontractors — who built the hotel and are still owed money — deeply concerned and frustrated. And the failure to get paid for work completed more than a year ago has placed financial strain on a laundry list of contractors still awaiting payment more than a year after completing their work. Harry Mattox, commercial division manager with Horner Plumbing in Pewaukee, …

Falls resident Donald Matovich is returning to the bar and restaurant business after a decade hiatus. He plans to open the business in the former Su Casa location.

Menomonee Falls will soon be home to a new sports bar and restaurant called DJ’s Goal Post, which is good news for sports fans, drinkers, and diners seeking more variety in the village. Falls resident Donald Matovich is returning to the bar and restaurant business after a decade hiatus. Matovich owned three DJ’s location in West Allis, St. Francis and West Milwaukee in the 1980s and 1990s, but stepped down due to diminishing health in 1999. Attention, Frappuccino Lovers: Starbucks Happy Hour Is Coming Back

Half-price drinks between 3-5 p.m. and a new Chocolate Cookie Crumble flavor? Yes!

When it's warm out, there's nothing better than strolling around with a frothy beverage. And with the recent string of outstanding weather Sussex has been having, this new and local deal is coming at the perfect time. Starbucks is launching its annual Happy Hour on Friday, where Frappuccinos are half-price between 3-5 p.m. through May 13. That means you can get one of the blended beverages for as little as $2. Now, I generally order a venti iced coffee with three pumps of sugar-free hazelnut (I know, I know, super boring), but I noticed this morning that they have a new offering: Chocolate Cookie Crumble. It's a blended concoction of mocha sauce, vanilla syrup, chocolate chips, milk and ice, topped with chocolate whipped cream (!?!) and …

Clark Richard Salon is holding "Cuts for a Cause" to raise money for 22-year-old Danielle Sommer after an unplanned heart transplant left her with stacks of medical bills.

For a young girl who endured a debilitating unplanned heart transplant, one local salon is ready to make a difference. "In January, Danielle was admitted to the ER for what she thought was flu-like symptoms or even possibly pneumonia, but it turned out to be much more serious," reads Sommer's bio on Aurora Hospital's website. "Danielle was suffering from a bacterial infection called endocarditis affecting her heart valves." Sommer was born with a condition called Marfan syndrome, a disease that infects the heart valves and aorta, but rarely gets …
