Republican Candidate for Wisconsin's open U.S. Senate seat

Another Poll Shows Us in The Lead!

We’ve got some exciting news. Public Policy Polling (PPP) has released their latest poll in the race for Wisconsin’s open U.S. Senate seat, and with just two weeks to go before Election Day, we’re in the lead!

I am deeply grateful for the support I have received, and the momentum that we have created is showing through in the numbers.

Despite being attacked from every side by my opponents and out-of-state special interest groups with bottomless pockets, we are continuing to surge. My message - that we must defeat the debt, balance the budget, reform our tax code and end cronyism - resonates in every town and with every one that I meet.

Having the courage to stand up for what is right and make the tough decisions is never easy, but it is what our nation needs if we’re ever going to get back on track.

Although we have all the momentum, I still need your help. With just two weeks to go, we are going to keep working to spread our positive message across Wisconsin.

Please, stand with me in our fight to shake up Washington and protect the American Dream for future generations.

Now we've gone from 3rd person to the royal "We".

Hoffa, make note and start referring yourself in the plural.

Props to Keith for being in on this particular trend wayyyy before anyone else.

Don't worry Bob, we already did make note of this amazing revelation. We're also totally ecstatic to be embracing such an incredible new way of self-referral. We look forward to seeing even more of our fellow Patchers embracing such a trend. It really would be great if we could get everyone on board with this just as quickly as possible!

Minus points for being late to the dance with that, Keith.

In a spectacle of humility, Hovde writes his own article for us. Very homey.

Aside from announcing that a poll shows "we’re in the lead," he has some very specific goals outlined here.

"Despite being attacked from every side by my opponents and out-of-state special interest groups with bottomless pockets," (now this gets a lot of sympathy),
Hovde intends to, "defeat the debt." He will "balance the budget, reform our tax code and end cronyism." In case this doesn't convince you he is qualified to take office, he suggests that we can all "stand up for what is right" and "make the tough decisions."
We will "stand with him," (shades of Walker) and "fight to shake up Washington," (a place he wants a job in very badly. This will "protect the American Dream for future generations."

I dont care who writes this sort of popcorn. If leaders believe that this is all it takes to get elected in this country, hit these few phrases and we will clap like seals being tossed a few fish... its a sad state of affairs. The fact that he does these articles himself (or claims to) suggests that he believes this is all we need to hear. Generic candidates, generic blather.

That article said more than Obama said the first 6 months of his campain, with more specificity even.

Granted, the president did get more specific after elected, when he said that if unemployment was not below 6% he should not be reelected. He offered another point of specificity was when he said that he would double exports. ::chuckle::

I wonder, if elected, if Hovde would be active in writing the budget his first year, unlike the president, who simply handed it over to Pelosi because "they can be trusted."

But unlike the president, Hovde has been very specific, pointing out the threat we are faced with when the 40 cents for every dollar we spend is no longer borrowed at the present rate of 1.8%, and returns to the historical 5.6%.

Haven't heard much about that from Obama, have you, Brian? Nah, too much specificity, Brian.

@Brian -

So, Hoffa's guessing that you don't think too highly of Baldwin, as she's even more generic than Hovde in the goals outlined on her website.

Based on your standard, is it fair to say that Baldwin is attempting to appeal to lowest common denominator?

Brian,

""I dont care who writes this sort of popcorn. If leaders believe that this is all it takes to get elected in this country, hit these few phrases and we will clap like seals being tossed a few fish... its a sad state of affairs.""

He didn't address his position on mining tar sands and deer management either. Do you think that this was, perhaps, a public announcement that he is ahead in the polls? I guess we'd have to look at the heading and content of the article to figure that out, ya think?

(Hint: With 4 people running in this race, it is important for those in the race to make the public feel that some of the runners have been eliminated.)

Hoffa.... I think, basically, that Baldwin, and pretty much every candidate for any office burps out this sort of meaningless claptrap. It lulls people to sleep and then they begin parroting the phrases in their conversations. Regan was the master of this feint of course being a trained actor. Hovde just strikes me as a glaring example of of "hallmark card" lines. I think it's all pretty insulting. But to give them all some credit....it does seem to work. We seem to like the obedience school commands... "stand with... Bring back.... Change.... Shake up...sit...stay.... Roll over.....beg.

May I point out that Eric Hovde has no legislative experience, nor has he ever held public office? Business experience doesn't count, because a business can simply cut the deadwood when times get rough. A society is different, and these 'businessmen' types don't quite comprehend that fact.

He is hardly a Washington 'outsider' either, having lived there for decades.

Then he's the perfect heir apparent to Herb, isn't he? With the added bonus of being less likely to be asking directions to this, that and the other place for the first 6 months of his term.

MiniMitt was on hand with David Koch when Bush signed the tax cut bill in 2003.

This refreshing. In the past, the affluent candidates would hide their intent to stuff their pockets at our expense. Something new must be happening where now Mitt and MiniMitt blatantly tell us they will do that, thinking that this is peachy keen with their base. They must really believe we are disengaged. Maybe they are right.

@Keith Do you really think the Koch brothers has anything to do with almost every County in the state except Liberal Milwaukee and Dane county. I mean Walker won straight wide because people rejected the liberal agenda of Folk and Barrett. You really need to get out of the bubble and stop by Chick - fil -a too see what is truly happening. Tammy Baldwin will lose vs any of these conservative because her politics are not in line with the peoples views. I see the momentum shifting in a big way in Wisconsin. Obama will be paying us several visits because the state could easily flip to RED given his results as A FAILED President. The failure is pretty much affirmed by Obama not even running on his record. Like I said ....You really need to get out of the bubble.

Boy Dude, are you off and running.

All I can say is the MiniMitt should be known by the company he keeps.

MimiMitt is going to incinerate along with Mitt -- the American Borat. Remember, yesterday the tax numbers came out, showing that we in the middle class will be paying for tax breaks for Mitt and others. I see Romney has continued to lie about his plan.

This is going to open a cut around Romney's eye that Obama is going to keep punching at and open more.

The Chick-a-fil incident yesterday was nothing short of disgusting, in affect saying that these people back a view that somehow gays are inferior.

Being gay is as natural as being left handed. I'm sure later on those in line in their fabric blend clothes will waddle over to Red Lobster for diner -- all in violation of Leviticus. But maybe they stoned to death their kids for being disobedient.

Why were younot BASHING Obama when he had the same view up until a few weeks ago?. Lets hope none of us evolve to your level of ignorance as you straddle both sides of the fence. The american people in mass get it .....You simply dont!

@Schmitzy -

When the liberals attacked Chick-fil-A, conservatives came out en force to defend them!

When the Dixie Chicks took fire for comments they made about the President and Iraq War, you and the rest of the liberals were MIA at the party!

I believe your real anger here lies in the fact that conservatives have loyalty and conviction to the efforts of their team, while liberals are mostly in it for their own self-interest and little else.

Keith also fails to make the distinction between Chick-fil-A and the Dixie Chicks situations. When the Dixie Chicks made their comments, the government didn't try to take any action against them. When Mr. Chick-fil-A made his, the mayors of Chicago and Boston decided to abuse their power to make sure that C-f-A wasn't able to expand in their respective cities.

It's one thing if private citizens choose to boycott someone because they disagree with the opinions they expressed. It's another thing entirely for the government to take action against someone because of the opinions they express.

Of course Keith cant make distinctions. He simply rambles on to some other stance in Hypocrisy . He is like Obama only his views evolve every other sentence and our never tied to a logical position. Being Liberal is a mental disorder and Keith is a good poster boy to illustrate it .

Dear Mr Hovde --- when you write in your posting

"Despite being attacked from every side by my opponents and out-of-state special interest groups with bottomless pockets,"

Aren't you referring to Yourself?

After all you are Carpetbagging for US Senate in WI after playing in the DC sandbox for decades ----

And BTW -- you claim to have been born in Wisconsin, but we do know that your father was part of the DC in crowd when you were growing up --- were your parents living in Wisconsin when you were born?

I think you should provide a copy of your Birth Certificate.

Want a copy of his last letter to me about the fed deficit that took his staff over a year to respond to? No, I don't need your help Goofy Doofy. You are apparently satisfied with mediocrity, lameness and outright corruption as long as it meets your PPP ideals. Just like your handle’s namesake.

On second thought, since you are in the help mode. Tell me, if every politician that has run for office over say the last 200 years in the US has taken a campaign oath to lower taxes and cut spending, irregardless of their party, because they all shout the same BS, why is the US gov’t in such dire financial straights? Why has the fed grown into the monster it has become? What are your ideas to cut were you king for a day? Throw your ideas on the table and I will too. Aren’t most politicians just liars, incompetents or gangsters?

Before you and your acolytes jump in with the Walker story, stick to the fed.
