Waukesha County Clerk Nickolaus Won't Run Again
Embattled official tells Waukesha Freeman "it's time to close the door on this chapter of my life."
After gaining national attention - and plenty of cricticism - for a series of election snafus, Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus has decided not to seek re-election this fall.
Nickolaus told the Waukesha Freeman she would step down on Dec. 31 and said she wanted to see the electorate focus on getting other Republican candidates elected to office in November.
"It's time to close the door on this chapter of my life," Nickolaus she told the newspaper Friday. "So much has been focused on me, but now it's important that positive energy is spent on the re-election of Gov. Scott Walker, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, and Sen. Scott Fitzgerald."
Nickolaus' decision comes less than a month after her office came under fire for lengthy delays in processing and posting results in the April 3 elections. Some results weren't available until 10 hours after the polls closed.
She also was was criticized for not posting results online in the April 2010 state Supreme Court race, in which the entire City of Brookfield votes were left out of the county's total results on election night. The error flipped the winner in the razor-thin election from Kloppenburg, who had declared victory, to Prosser.
There have been several calls for her to resign, which she has refused to do.
After the April 3 election problems, County Executive Dan Vrakas told Nickolaus that he would publicly call for her resignation if she didn't turn over election duties to her deputy clerk.

It's about time! She should have been gone a long time ago.

Dear Ms Nickolaus, you are an embarrassment to Waukesha County. Please resign now.

Is she suppose to be giving her electoral opinion ? Considering her ethics in question and votes held back that always seem to benefit the Republican party that looks pretty bad.

Ms. Nickolaus needs to take a H.I.N.T (Honesty, Integrity, Non-partisanship, Transparency) from Jessie Read. http://www.read4waukeshacountyclerk.com/
She will be a great replacement in Nov.

Read is a liar and so are you! Do you even know what non-partisanship means?
If she is "non-partisan," why did she sign and circulate a Walker recall petition?
I can't wait to post this information for all to see in all of the campaign stories about this election!
Verify the recall will be such a great resource in the years to come!

'Sha Guy, im not saying, and I don't think she is saying she IS a non-partisan person, by running as a Democrat he is obviously partisan, but from talking with her, he feels that the position has nothing to do with partisan politics and would run the office as so. Being clerk is (should) be done the same way rather Republican or Democrat, or anything else.

As if as if she should run again??? People deserve better that Kathy Nickolaus in a county clerk regardless of what side of a political issue they may be on. She's cost taxpayers lots of money as the result of her incompetence!!!

Read is a democrat activist and not even close to being non-partisan!
She signed and circulated a Walker recall petition.

I didn't defend Nickolaus and the other points you make about her are pretty irrelevant. The point is, Read is running on the platform of being non-partisan which she clearly is not based on her signing and circulating a recall petition.
PS. For your own well being I probably wouldn't consider Walker winning the election as a "mighty big if." He is likely to win.
