Sussex Woman Accused of Theft From Brookfield Business
For nearly two years and until she was caught, the cashier took money from customer accounts and placed it on personal debit cards, prosecutors allege.
Prosecutors allege a Sussex woman stole more than $3,000 from her Brookfield employer, Bed, Bath and Beyond.
Caseyana T. Leath, 27, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count of theft. If convicted, she faces up to nine months in jail and $10,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint:
Between Oct. 20, 2011 and June 23, 2012, Leath took about $3,185 from Bed, Bath and Beyond while working as a cashier. Leath would make returns to the store and place credits from the transactions on a gift card along with placing money from customer accounts on debits cards she had.
A manager at the store began to monitor Leath in spring after several questionable transactions. After three weeks of investigation, the theft was uncovered.
The complaint alleges that Leath admitted to making the transactions and had eight debit cards in her purse when she was arrested.
She will make her first court appearance on Oct. 1.
